AI at work: short lessons

What AI tools can (and cannot) do at work

1 min read · Updated Oct 27, 2026 · Reviewed by the JOBUS editorial team

AI tools such as chat assistants can help with everyday work tasks. They are useful helpers, but they make mistakes, so you always check their work.

Good uses at work

  • Writing a first draft of an email, a schedule or instructions, which you then edit.
  • Making long text shorter, for example summarizing a policy or meeting notes.
  • Explaining something new in simple words, step by step.
  • Brainstorming ideas or a list of questions to ask.

Be careful

  • AI can be wrong but sound sure. Check facts, numbers, names and dates.
  • Do not paste private information: customer data, passwords, health information, or your employer's confidential documents — unless your employer approved the tool for that.
  • Follow your workplace rules about which tools you may use.

Try it

Ask an AI assistant: "Explain in five simple steps how to write a professional email asking for a day off." Then compare its answer with what you would write, and fix anything that does not fit your workplace.
