Lesson 3: Spotting AI Hallucinations & Fact-Checking
Recognize plausible-sounding errors, invented numbers, and fabricated regulations.
Large language models do not feel doubt. When an AI does not know an answer, it frequently generates plausible-sounding text that is completely false. This phenomenon is known as a hallucination.
AI may invent statute numbers, quote non-existent company policies, or cite fabricated research studies with realistic author names.
The 3-Finger Fact-Check Rule:
- Check every number, date, and dollar amount.
- Verify every named law, policy, or legal code on an official
.govwebsite. - Test every web link before clicking or sharing.
Hands-On Workplace Exercise
